Dr. Max Liboiron is changing how science is done

MEOPAR researcher Max Liboiron wears many hats. An activist, scientist, mentor and associate professor at Memorial University, their work is making an impact—and helping others to do the same—on many levels. Liboiron is also the director of CLEAR (AKA the Civic Laboratory for Environmental Action Research) a multi-disciplinary collective of researchers that’s been specializing in grassroots environmental monitoring of plastic pollution for the past six years. An incubator for feminist and anti-colonial methods, CLEAR is changing the future of science—or, as Liboiron says, “how science is done by who”—by promoting humility, equity, accountability and supporting community-based and citizen research.
